Morning Has Broken

This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Dressing for the Masses

My friend over at Home Steeped Hope has posted a few times on femininity and modesty for women. I find it rather sad that many women come to the defense of dressing sloppy. So, notice the catagory that this post is put in. :)

I don’t want to offend anyone by what I say, but I really feel the need to say something.

We visited another church this past Sunday. Since my husband is looking at working some Sundays and Wednesday evenings, I don’t know if I am going to be able to continue to drive the miles we have been to church and partcipate in all that we have been over the years. So, we’ve been visiting some churches in our area.

We have been going to a pretty conservative church, so I knew I needed to be a little more lenient in the area of dressing for church. But what a disappointment it has been! I think the biggest thing that has hit me is the lack of respect for God, His house where we gather to worship. Going to a morning worship service should not be the same for us as going out to mow our lawns or clean the toilet. That may sound harsh, but the way people are dressing for church especially is the way we would have dressed 20+ years ago to do those things.

Now, this has become a problem in many areas. Dress down Fridays started many years ago. Many companies have stopped doing it now because of the affect it had on productivity and attitude. Children go to school dressed very sloppy. I’ve seen people going to the post office and grocery store in their pajamas and slippers! People wear jeans and shorts to weddings and funerals. All of this is bad in my opinion, but going to church like this really ‘takes the cake’!

Without exception, the attitudes to dress sloppy are: everyone else is doing it, I’m expressing myself, I don’t want to make others feel bad by dressing up too much. The bottom line of what people are saying…I just don’t care and I’m thinking about myself!

I’m not saying that everyone should wear a suit and tie. But you can put a little effort into your clothes, especially for Sunday morning. My children’s clothes all come from the local thrift store and my son wears a dress shirt and tie every Sunday morning. It does not cost a lot to dress nicely. So there goes that excuse! I would prefer to see women in dresses for Sunday morning, but even a nice pair of slacks and blouse is much better than the worn out jeans and t-shirts that most women had on yesterday! But, what is wrong with putting on a dress? Most women, even those that say they don’t look good in dresses, do look better in a dress or skirt than tight, old jeans and t-shirt. Ask those that have to look at you! The right kind of skirt or dress can take a thin, overweight, tall, short woman and make her very attractive indeed. The same can not be said for jeans or shorts. Just by the way they are cut and made they draw attention to certain areas that are not so attractive on all of us! You know what I’m saying! A long flowing dress or skirt can hide those kind of areas very well.

So, the next time you pull out the jeans for church or even a pair of pants, check your heart attitude. You’re going to church. Is God, His house, His people worth putting a little effort into in the area of your clothing…or is it just another day to clean the toilet?

Notice the Category…

I’m going to put this post in the category of: On the level of stupidity. Many of you have read my post: That’s Aggravating

I had replied in the comments that maybe I would write a post on why having the neighbor’s dog and children in my yard are a problem.

Years ago, even when I was growing up, people knew that you should teach your children what their boundaries were. They were to play in their own yard, unless invited to play in someone else’s yard. They didn’t just walk through someone’s property without having permission. If you had pets, they stayed in your yard. People don’t have common sense about this anymore…hence the reason I put this post in the category that I did.

This topic could go off in so many areas…so without me ranting too much on it, what are some of your pet peeves about etiquette, or lack thereof? Please share them here!

Spring Ahead!

Yes, at 2:00 A.M. we are supposed to turn our clocks ahead by one hour. Please let me know if any of you ACTUALLY do this at two in the morning. I usually set mine before I go to bed, but I have been known to do it right after supper. Especially in the fall when I have an extra hour to get everything done. In the spring that is a little depressing since you would lose an hour of your evening!

For the longest time…I could not remember if the clocks went back or ahead. (I think it was during those years that I had four children under the age of nine! During those years I didn’t know I had a first name other than ‘mommy’). Anyway, someone told me to remember it by SPRING ahead and FALL behind. I thought that was kind of cute and I’ve been able to remember what to do every since.

So, all day today I’ve been saying “spring ahead, spring ahead” in hopes that I wouldn’t forget and put us an hour late for church in the morning! You would think I would just write myself a simple note on the fridge to remind myself to set the clocks ahead, but I keep forgetting to do that too!

By now you are all thinking that I’ve lost my mind somewhere along the line! I know I definitely have fewer brain cells since giving birth. When you fill out the paper work to have a baby, (you know…when you pre-register, so your husband can actually be with you when the baby is born instead of filling out miles of paperwork)…they should have a disclaimer saying that you will lose brain cells during the process and it is not the fault of the doctor or hospital.

Anyway…back to the topic at hand. The big plus for me setting the clocks ahead this year; and a month early at that, is that it will still be dark at 7 A.M. for awhile atleast. My toddler just may sleep past 6 A.M. Now that’s something to jump for joy over!! :)

Now, what do I need to do after I finish this post? It’s been running through my head all day and I can’t quite remember…

Calling All Dummies…

Yes, you’ve seen the yellow book with the big-eyed guy…DUMMIES in yellow, bright yellow, neon yellow standing out on the black background. It always attracts my attention. Well, my husband bought three of those to add to his collection. (we’ll talk about his library at another time. :) ) He bought them just the other day at the bookstore in town which is going out of business. I think he bought them to help me out. Which is a very kind thought. BUT…where is the book to help me figure out the DUMMIES book?!

I will be fair, I haven’t given the books much of a chance. There is no hero or herione, no conversation over coffee, (some of you will know what I’m talking about) and no sunsets. But, I have looked through, and I’ve become totally confused. I’m really beginning to think I have a block or something against becoming computer literate! I mean, the guy in the DUMMIES book is very polite and helpful…but I just don’t get it!

So, for now I will keep calling my daughters in whenever I make a mess of something, asking friends to dictate over the phone so I can get something word for word.

BTW…those of you that visit over at MInTheGap…I did manage to print out the “Lazy Bogger’s Way to Install a WordPress Plugin”. That was a major thing for me! But…WHERE IS the developer’s site? Sigh!
